“Play with Poetic Forms”: New class in Superior! Explore those poetic forms most of us try to avoid: sestina, pantoum, cento and so forth. We’ll look at successful examples and try our hand at writing our own. Many journals have calls for specific forms, so you will leave with an inventory of poems to submit. Class is every Saturday in October (2018) from 10:00-12:30. Registration is being handled by WITC-Superior, so please contact them or go online at http://www.witc.edu
Readings/Events in October:
Wednesday, October 3 at 6:30 p.m. at the Forest Lodge Library in Cable, Wisconsin. Naomi Cochran and I will be reading from our full-length poetry collections. The library is a treat in itself as it is in an old log building located on Highway M in Cable.
Sunday, October 14 is the annual publication reading for the 2019 Wisconsin Poets Calendar. An open mic begins at 2:00 and is followed by regional poets published in the calendar. Come for comraderie and good verse! Drummond Public Library in Drummond, Wisconsin.
Tuesday, October 23 at 3:00 p.m. Book release at FDLTCC (see above)
Friday and Saturday, Nov. 2-3 is the Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets fall conference in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. More information and registration is available at http://www.wfop.org
I teach CE classes for Wisconsin Indianhead Technical Institute (WITC). I recently taught “Creating a Chapbook” in Ashland and Superior. One of my most popular classes is “Jumpstart Your Poetry” where we get our batteries recharged by doing a lot of writing. If you are interested in either of these classes or have another one to suggest, please use the contact form on the “Contact” page. I love to spend time with people who love poetry and am willing to travel (within reason) if a group wants to sponsor a workshop.
